What Causes Diaper Rash?
Diaper rash is a common problem that is easy to spot on your baby. Red, inflamed skin with a prickly rash forms and spreads over much of the area covered by the diaper and sometimes down the legs of the infant.
Diaper rash is usually caused by a combination of factors including exposure to urine, feces, moisture, friction as well as perfumes and other chemicals contained in disposable wipes. Often parents are told the problem is that they do not change the diaper often enough, but diaper rash can occur with frequent diaper changing as well.
One factor that doctors and other professionals overlook is how the water in which you bathe your baby can affect his or her delicate skin.
Chlorine, a chemical used to kill bacteria and make the water safe to drink, is added to every water system during treatment. Your tap water contains plenty of chlorine and can contain even more during drought or times when water contamination concerns occur.
Chlorine is essentially bleach, and can have the effect of drying and irritating sensitive skin by promoting the oxidation of common minerals and pollutants already on the skin.
In fact, tap water itself contains high levels of calcium, magnesium, copper and even iron, all which can collect on the skin and hair and become oxidized. The problems this can create on the skin are significant – diaper rash being only one.
The Wellness Solution
to Diaper Rash
Total Oxidation Management (T.O.M.) is the gentle, safe and effective way to minimize discomfort and inflammation from diaper rash. This wellness approach might well save you from having to use any commercial or medical treatment that could have undesirable side-effects.
T.O.M. is what we call a “lifestyle” solution because it can be easily fit into your regular routine of baby care and used long term to great benefit and without harm to your baby.
Malibu’s wellness approach to diaper rash starts by normalizing and decreasing the painful irritation of your baby’s skin by adding pure, 100% natural Vitamin C (
Malibu C® Vitamin C Inside/Out) to baby’s bath water. This both neutralizes the chlorine and stops oxidation on the skin, but will also help to expose the skin to healthy antioxidant nutrients.
Once the skin begins to show sign of improvement, a gentle, 15% natural Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) plus Zinc combination (Malibu C® Zinc C Serum) is applied after diaper changes to fight bacteria and oxidation.
Finally, a fast-absorbing, barrier-protection cream (
Malibu C® Hand Guardian Lotion) gently and effectively soothes and helps to heal the skin affected by the rash, as well as provide a barrier of protection against further irritation.
Define: Wellness
Common approaches to the redness, irritation, itch and inflammation of diaper rash use heavy, medicated creams which provide temporary relief, but which lock out essential moisture the skin needs to be healthy. Baby wipes can further aggravate the situation with the addition of lotions and fragrances.
The wellness approach to diaper rash goes right to the cause of irritation gently preventing bacteria growth, stopping oxidation and inflammation while balancing moisture.
In addition,Malibu C products are fragrance-free, paraben-free, propylene glycol-free, DEA-free - all important considerations when dealing with infants and toddlers with diaper rash.

I love using Malibu's skin care on my infant. I use Zinc C Serum and the wellness moisturizer on her little face when she gets baby acne and it works great! I also use the Hand Guardian Lotion on her diaper area every time I change her diaper. We've yet to get diaper rash!
